What did I get my self into?!

I am Sarah Bowers, I am a “super senior” BFA Dance Major, and will be done after this class!! Ultimately I registered for this class as I saw it might be something that would jumpstart my professional online activity as a dance artist. I am not a blogger, and do not consider my self a media enthusiast, the most social media I use is Facebook and Instagram (primarily as a photo journal). I kind of dispise twitter and have never dared to dive into the depths of Reddit for fear of never coming back. In my honest opinion I believe a great deal of social media to be shaping a generation of people who are losing touch with authentic human communication. The kind that allows us to be able to connect in real physical life. Now this is not to say that I am against the ever evolving technological social culture but I feel it has gone rampant to a borderline   debilitating point. As someone who’s life work is about connecting with people in authentic and performative ways I understand the sticky and confusing line that one walks as the build their social identity. HOwever I don’t have any clear answers,… right now.

When I signed up for this class I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but here I am. I hope that I can find ways in which the refocusing of interactive digital media can have a    positive spin on our human evolution. Maybe beginning to weed through the misuse of    participatory culture will help settle my worries….
